Dog Portraits, Willow, Gypsy and Zac
A bit further on with my dog portrait of Willow, Gypsy and Zac. I had hoped to be further along than this, I think I was expecting too much, Willow's fur has turned out to be quite hard work and many hours of work! Really not what I had in mind! You can get an idea of how I am working her fur, I use the highlight pencil (in this case white grey and french grey) to put in the fur which has caught the light, then I go around each highlight with back, this is evident on the left side of the portrait, then I use various greys to 'fill in' the gaps creating shadows. Then I'll go back to the black to add more dark and bring the lighter fur forward, finally I use my stabilo pencil (yes I know I like it) to go over the highlights where needed to make them stand out more. Hope that makes sense!

They are all looking very cute! Love the way you are doing Willows fur. It must be time consuming!
It is time consuming Sal, but I am so absorbed once I get going time just flies by.
They are looking fabulous Carrie - the winners of your pet portrait competitions are so fortunate!!!!
Hi first time on your blog its really lovely and you have an amazing talent ...could you tell me what pencils you use if thats ok...I used to do pencil portraits mainly of children, self taught nothing fancy but just used ordinary pencils but wouldn't mind trying abit of colour but not sure where to start...thanks....
Hi Karie-Ann. These are looking awesome, but I no longer get a little pic on my blogroll! Which is quite sad.
looking very nice Karie-Ann
It's amazing how detailed the portraits are! Great works!
Thanks Gary, hope you are still very busy
Really great portraits! When viewed next to the references pics, your strong compositions skills really shine. You managed to make the 3 of them completely cohesive.
thanks Gwen, I do think Willow should have been a little taller, I had to move her back a little to fit her big ears in! Poor Willow!
